The Plastic People in the Pews

"Faith is personal if its to be real."

Bear Grylls British Explorer 1974

THE PLASTIC PEOPLE IN THE PEWS

For those of you who sit in the holy pew

To be obvious to your neighbor's view

While most are saying prayers from the heart

You are the ones thinking about when brunch will start

You are the ones who argued as you dressed to the nines

Screaming to your family about the time

You must be seen in your new church wear

And have others jealous about your hair

You are the ones who won't have God in mind

Or offer a prayer from time to time

You gossip about your neighbors who have less than you

But lend them a hand? That's just not you

Charity to you is not ordinary

Praise is not in your vocabulary

But you will never see yourself in these words I said

Your goodness is only in your own vain head

Yes, there are plastic people in the pews

Living to take what they can use

And what they leave in that offering today

Is just payment for the game they play
