The quote is from Sun Tzu:
Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death.
THE COMMANDER
The discipline was tough to take
The rigors of war would do us in, I thought
But in time we learned we were his son's and daughters
We were tough, able, and obviously we'll taught
There was never somewhere he would send us
Where he would not go in there first
We found he would give up his last drop of water
To quench a soldier's thirst
The harsh words that he bellowed
When one of us would screw things up
Proved many times to save our lives
Things were harsh, man, but there was trust
He put on a tough and heartless front
But one day I saw the tears in his eyes
He tried to hide them but I know they were there
When there were brutal, permanent good-byes
I'd follow this brute to hell and back
Never hiding from the battle call
He was the man he had to be
And a father to us all
